Pakistan’s armed forces have launched a powerful retaliatory strike against India, shooting down five Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets, a combat drone, and destroying brigade headquarters and multiple checkposts. The response came after India carried out missile strikes on cities in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Pakistan Warns of Further Action Amid Cross-Border Military Escalation
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director-General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed in a press conference that all Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jets remained safe after engaging Indian aircraft. Among the downed jets were three French-made Rafales, one Su-30MKI, and one MiG-29 Fulcrum.
The military also targeted enemy posts along the Line of Control (LoC), where intense exchanges of fire continue. India’s attacks resulted in the martyrdom of 26 civilians, with 46 others injured.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned India’s aggression, vowing a decisive response. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that Pakistan had gained the upper hand in its counteroffensive, while Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar denounced India’s airstrikes as an unprovoked act of war.

Pakistan has formally apprised the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) of the situation, warning that India’s reckless actions have brought the two nuclear-armed nations closer to conflict. The Foreign Office reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to respond appropriately under international law.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Airports Authority has restored airspace for Lahore and Karachi after an eight-hour suspension, advising passengers to stay updated on flight schedules.
The crisis follows India’s accusations linking Pakistan to the April 22 attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a claim Islamabad has strongly denied. Both nations have since taken diplomatic and economic measures to downgrade ties, further escalating tensions.
