WhatsApp Set to Enhance Status with Music-Sharing Feature
WhatsApp is reportedly preparing to roll out an upgraded music-sharing feature for its Status updates, allowing users to share tracks directly from Spotify. This new addition will function similarly to Instagram Stories, making music sharing more interactive and visually appealing.
WhatsApp’s New Music-Sharing Feature
According to reports from WABetaInfo and Android Police, the upcoming feature will introduce several enhancements:
- Album Cover Display: Users will be able to showcase album art, song titles, and artist names in their WhatsApp Status updates.
- Custom Backgrounds: The feature will offer four background colors automatically extracted from the album art for a personalized touch.
- “Play on Spotify” Button: A dedicated button will let viewers listen to the shared track directly on Spotify with a single tap.
Leaked images from WABetaInfo reveal that the feature closely resembles Instagram’s music-sharing tools, aligning with Meta’s broader strategy to integrate music across its platforms for a seamless user experience.
The move comes as Meta continues to invest in music-driven features to boost engagement, particularly as TikTok, a dominant player in music discovery, faces regulatory hurdles in the U.S. Meta has already introduced music-related tools on Instagram, including profile songs, Reels lyrics, and music stickers, and now aims to extend these capabilities to WhatsApp.
With WhatsApp’s massive global user base, this update could significantly enhance user interaction and establish the platform as a key space for music enthusiasts. While WhatsApp has yet to officially confirm the launch, reports suggest the feature will be introduced soon, further strengthening Meta’s push into the music-sharing space.
