PIA’s Efforts for a Major Breakthrough
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is making significant progress in its bid to resume direct flights to the United States. This development marks a crucial step forward for the national carrier, aiming to restore a key international route after years of suspension.
FAA Inspection: A Crucial Step Toward Approval
Following PIA’s expansion into the UK and Europe, a critical evaluation by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is set to determine Pakistan’s aviation readiness. A high-level FAA delegation will visit Pakistan in mid-March to assess aviation safety and regulatory compliance. If successful, this inspection could pave the way for non-stop PIA flights to the U.S.
Pakistan’s Efforts to Regain Category 1 Status
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has been working to restore Pakistan’s Category 1 status, which was downgraded to Category 2 due to safety concerns. To regain approval, Pakistan has implemented major aviation reforms, including improved safety protocols, stricter pilot licensing standards, and enhanced regulatory compliance.
PIA’s Expansion Plans Beyond the U.S.
Apart from resuming U.S. flights, PIA is expanding its operations to Europe and beyond. The airline plans to operate flights to 19 European destinations, including Barcelona and Milan, while also increasing connectivity to Canada. These expansions align with PIA’s long-term revival and privatization efforts.
A New Era for Pakistan’s Aviation
The potential return of direct flights to the U.S. represents a milestone for PIA, positioning the airline for global competitiveness. With the FAA inspection being a decisive factor, Pakistan remains hopeful about reclaiming its place in international aviation.
