Blue Line Metro: Lahore’s Rs600 Billion Underground Train to Ease Traffic & Pollution
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled plans for Lahore’s first fully underground metro train, the Blue Line, as part of the government’s strategy to modernize the city’s public transport system.

According to media reports, the 27-kilometer-long metro line will run from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Chowk and is projected to be completed within three years at an estimated cost of Rs600 billion.
The Punjab Transport Department has already commenced feasibility studies and design planning, aiming to develop an efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective transit system for Lahore. Officials highlight that the project will play a crucial role in reducing traffic congestion and air pollution, aligning with the government’s Green Punjab vision.
This initiative follows CM Maryam Nawaz’s recent launch of Lahore’s first electric bus service, which introduced 27 electric buses with a minimal fare of Rs20. Additionally, she has announced the deployment of 500 more electric buses by August and the expansion of the Metrobus service to Faisalabad and Gujranwala in the upcoming fiscal year.
