Sindh’s Public-Private Healthcare Model Praised for Reducing Child Mortality
Karachi – Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, visited the Telemedicine Satellite Control Room at the ChildLife Foundation’s facility in Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital, Karachi. The visit also included attendance at an Award Distribution Ceremony recognizing the foundation’s achievements.
Aga Khan University Hospital Wins the Prestigious Award
Bhutto Zardari lauded Sindh’s public-private healthcare partnerships, specifically highlighting their significant contribution to reducing child mortality rates. He referenced a report by the US-based PALISI network, which documented a 1.2% mortality rate at ChildLife-supported facilities in Larkana and Karachi. This rate is notably lower than the 1.4% recorded at Aga Khan Hospital and substantially below the 6.3% average observed in similar countries.

The ChildLife facilities have also achieved a 5/5 rating from SafeCare Quality Standards, making them the only public-sector pediatric centers in Pakistan to receive this global recognition. This achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of the Sindh government, the provincial health department, and the ChildLife Foundation in providing high-quality pediatric care.
