Babar Azam Steps Down as Pakistan’s White-Ball Captain to Focus on Personal Growth and Playing Role
Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has announced his decision to step down from the white-ball captaincy, citing a desire to focus on his performance and personal growth. The 29-year-old star batter, who was reappointed as captain in March 2023, expressed that captaincy had been rewarding but added significant pressure. He emphasized wanting to enjoy his batting and spend more time with his family.

Babar explained his decision in a post on social media platform X, stating that stepping down would give him clarity and allow him to direct more energy towards his game. Despite resigning, Babar looks forward to continuing his contributions to the national team as a player.
This is the second time Babar has relinquished the captaincy, following Pakistan’s underperformance in the Asia Cup and the World Cup. He previously stepped down in November 2023 amid heavy criticism for the team’s failures in these tournaments.
