Easypaisa, Pakistan’s top digital financial platform, has filed a formal complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against individuals spreading false rumors on social media, claiming Easypaisa accounts will be blocked on September 30, 2024. The misleading information has caused unnecessary panic among users, with Easypaisa reassuring the public that these rumors are baseless and all accounts will continue to operate normally. The complaint was filed by Easypaisa’s Head of Litigation, Naresh Kumar Aruwani, who emphasized the damage caused by these false claims.

The FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing in Sindh has taken immediate action, assigning investigator Ameer Ali Khoso to probe the case and identify the culprits behind the misinformation. Additionally, Easypaisa’s Legal Counsel for the North Region, Bilal Mustafa, confirmed that a similar complaint has been lodged with the FIA Cyber Wing in Islamabad, which has contacted NADRA for facial recognition and directed the PTA to block the defamatory social media content.
