Tribal Elders Agree to Ceasefire After Deadly Land Dispute in Kurram District

In the wake of a deadly land dispute in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which resulted in at least 35 deaths, the elders of the Bushehra and Malikhel tribes have agreed to a ceasefire. According to Dawn News, the violent exchange of gunfire continued for five days, with 15 fatalities reported on the final day, bringing the total number of casualties to 35.

Deputy Commissioner of District Kurram, Javedullah Mehsud, confirmed that the tribal leaders had reached an agreement to cease hostilities. As part of the agreement, security forces, district administration officials, and members of the Aman Jirga (Peace Committee) will be deployed to various areas to disarm and disperse the armed tribesmen from their positions.

The conflict, stemming from a land dispute, left 185 people injured in addition to the fatalities. The affected area remains under heavy police and security presence, with normal life disrupted as tensions continue to run high.
