DHA’s Request Sindh Govt for 6,000 Acres of Seafront Land for Housing Expansion

The Sindh government is evaluating a request from the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) for the allocation of up to 6,000 acres of seafront land in Karachi. The DHA seeks this land, preferably on the beachside, to expand its housing scheme and provide relief to the families of martyrs and armed forces personnel. The request was initially made to the caretaker government in December 2023 and has since been reviewed by the current provincial administration.

In a letter to the Sindh Chief Minister, the DHA administrator highlighted the need for additional land due to the bifurcation of DHA Karachi and DHA City Karachi. The letter praised the provincial government for its past support and requested the lease of land in the Hawksbay area. The Sindh government has acted on this request, with the CM Secretariat instructing the Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) to examine the expansion plan.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed that the provincial government is considering the DHA request, with relevant officials conducting their evaluations. Sources indicated that the proposal is still in its early stages, with studies needed to determine the technical and financial viability of the expansion. The DHA, which started with 76.2 acres in the 1980s, now manages over 8,797 acres and serves numerous families, including armed forces officers and civilians.
