The provincial government of Sindh has decided to acquire a fleet of high-end vehicles for its officials, despite the widespread poverty and unemployment in the region. The plan involves using current financial year funds to procure vehicles, including 1300 cc Toyota Yaris cars worth Rs. 4.9 million each for urban Assistant Commissioners and Rs. 10 million Toyota Hilux 4×4 Double Cabin Standard Edition vehicles for officers in rural areas.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioners across Sindh’s 31 districts and 150 sub-divisions will receive even more expensive cars. Provincial Minister for Development and Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, defended the expenditure as necessary for official duties, stating that the funds had already been allocated in the current financial year’s budget.
He emphasized that the purchase is not a waste of money on luxuries but rather a requirement for the officials’ duties. This decision comes at a time when the province is grappling with significant socio-economic challenges.
